Islands, Shell Spots & Farming Paths

Shells Locations Guide

The Shells Locations Guide helps Roblox Shells players understand where to farm, when to move to new areas, how to compare short and long routes, and how to avoid wasting time in locations that are too advanced for their current gear.

Locations matter because the best shell route is not always the farthest island or the rarest area. A good location is one that matches your tool strength, sell timing, charm usage, companion support, and current progression goal. Use this guide to turn exploration into a planned farming path instead of random wandering.

All Shells Islands — Unlock Order

Roblox Shells takes place across multiple islands, each with its own shells, tools, merchants, and NPCs. You progress by earning Shellings (the main currency), buying better tools, and traveling to new islands as your gear improves. Every island has a teleporter — hold E on it to activate a Waystone. Once activated, you can fast-travel between islands instead of swimming, which saves enormous amounts of time.

How to Get the Sun Shard in Shells

The Sun Shard is one of the most searched items in Roblox Shells. You need it to purchase the Solar Tideclaw (2,500,000 Shellings) at Caldera Cay. Here is everything you need to know about getting it.

1

Reach Caldera Cay

Travel to Caldera Cay and activate the Waystone (hold E on the teleporter). This lets you return quickly for each Eclipse event.

2

Wait for Eclipse

The Eclipse event occurs roughly every 3 hours on each server. During Eclipse, you get double luck for finding the Sun Shard, plus an increased chance of the Scorched Mutation (1.7x multiplier) on shells you dig.

3

Dig during Eclipse

Farm shells aggressively during the Eclipse window. The higher your tool's Luck stat, the better your chance. Use your best Tideclaw (Frosted, Crystal, or Energy Tideclaw if you have it).

4

Enter the Cave Maze

Once you have the Sun Shard, enter the cave on Caldera Cay and navigate the maze. The Solar Tideclaw merchant is at the end of the maze. Have 2,500,000 Shellings ready to purchase it.

Eclipse timing tip: if you join a server mid-cycle, check how long until the next Eclipse. Players in Discord or the game chat may share timing. Switching servers resets your position in the Eclipse cycle, so stick to one server and plan your grind session around it.

Sun Shard Tips

Higher Luck stat = better Sun Shard drop chance. Use the highest Luck tool available to you. The Energy Tideclaw (Luck 150) from Oro's quest is excellent here even though it is mid-progression. Charms that increase luck are also very useful during Eclipse windows — activate them just before the event starts.

After the Sun Shard

With the Sun Shard and 2.5 million Shellings, the Solar Tideclaw (Luck 260, Collection Speed 320, Max Weight 450) is a massive jump from anything below it. It remains the best obtainable tool until you defeat Ambulias and unlock the Brineblossom at Solmere.

Farming Route Recommendations by Stage

Where you should be farming depends on your current tool. This table gives a simple recommendation based on the tool you have. If your route feels too slow or too far, downgrade your location target and upgrade one tool tier first.

Your Current Tool Best Farming Location Target Goal
Driftwood Stick / Rusted Sifter Bay Island (near spawn) Earn 200–6,500 Shellings for next sifter upgrade
Steel → Silver Sifter Bay Island (wider beach) Farm toward Gold Sifter (13,000s). Do Hermit Crab upgrades too.
Gold Sifter Bay Island / Start of Crescent Shore Travel to Crescent Shore, activate Waystone, buy Simple or Coral Tideclaw
Coral / RGB Tideclaw Crescent Shore Complete Oro's quest for Energy Tideclaw. Farm toward Frosted Tideclaw (90k).
Frosted / Crystal Tideclaw Sea Stack Islands Hunt rarer shells (Worm Snail, Lightning Whelk, Tusk Shell). Farm toward Haunted Tideclaw.
Energy Tideclaw Sea Stack Islands / Caldera Cay during Eclipse Grind toward Sun Shard during Eclipse events
Haunted / Blood Tide Claw Caldera Cay, Nautilus Hollow Farm Sun Shard for Solar Tideclaw (2.5M Shellings)
Solar Tideclaw Solmere (prep for Ambulias) Farm toward Brineblossom (10M). Defeat Ambulias to unlock it.

Waystones — How to Unlock Fast Travel

Every island in Shells has a teleporter. By approaching it and holding E, you activate the Waystone for that island. Once activated, you can teleport between any of your unlocked Waystones from anywhere in the game. This is one of the most important things to do the moment you set foot on a new island — do it before you start farming.

Without Waystones, traveling between islands requires swimming or a boat, which wastes time that could be spent farming. Players who skip Waystones often find their income per hour is much lower than expected because of travel overhead. Activate the Bay Island, Crescent Shore, Caldera Cay, Sea Stack, and Nautilus Hollow Waystones as early as possible.

Priority order for Waystones: Bay Island → Crescent Shore → Sea Stack Islands → Caldera Cay → Nautilus Hollow → Solmere. Each one unlocked means faster access to that area's merchant, shells, and quests.

Secret and Special Locations

Sea Stack Secret Area

The Sea Stack Islands contain a secret zone where the Frosted Tideclaw and Crystal Tideclaw merchants are located. Exploration is required — they are not at the obvious spawn point.

Caldera Cay Cave Maze

Inside a cave on Caldera Cay is a maze leading to the Solar Tideclaw merchant. You must have the Sun Shard to purchase the tool once you reach the end.

Haunted Tideclaw (Bay Island)

The Ghost NPC at the back of Bay Island sells the Haunted Tideclaw for 900,000 Shellings. Many players miss this because it is not at the main spawn area.

Ambulias at Solmere

To access the Brineblossom (10M Shellings), you must beat Ambulias in a 1-minute shell-finding competition. The winner is whoever finds the highest-value shells in that time.

Common Location Mistakes

The most common mistake is skipping Waystone activation. Every time you visit a new island, hold E on the teleporter immediately. Forgetting this means you have to swim back, which wastes minutes per trip. The second mistake is going to Caldera Cay for the Solar Tideclaw without the Sun Shard — the merchant will not sell it to you without it, regardless of how many Shellings you carry. The third mistake is farming Sea Stack Islands with a Gold Sifter or lower — the increased rare shell rate requires a tool with at least Luck 55+ (RGB Tideclaw level) to notice a meaningful difference over Bay Island.
