Every shell in Roblox Shells has a rarity tier that determines how often it appears and what it sells for at the Merchant. The value shown is the base price per kilogram before any mutation multiplier. Mutations can dramatically increase the sell value — the rarest mutation (0.01% chance) gives an 8x Shellings multiplier, and the Scorched Mutation from Eclipse events gives 1.7x. Common

Bay Scallop, Common Cockle, Barnacle Cluster. Found everywhere, especially Bay Island. Good for learning the dig loop.

Uncommon

Sand Dollar, Sea Glass, Cowrie, Noble Scallop, Clam, Babylon, Sundial, Dubious Volute, Volva Volva. Appear across multiple islands.

Rare → Epic

Conch, Nautilus Shell, Mitra Mitra, Worm Snail, Lightning Whelk, Tusk Shell, White Abalone. Need better gear and specific islands.

Legendary+

Mythic and Exotic tier shells appear at late-game islands. High mutation chance on these means massive payouts.

Common Shells

Common shells appear on nearly every island and are ideal for new players learning the digging mechanic. They are low value individually but sell well in bulk.

Shell Rarity System Explained

Every shell has a rarity: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, and Exotic. Rarity determines both how often a shell appears and its base value. Higher rarity shells require better tools (higher Luck stat) and specific island locations. The Luck stat on your tool directly affects which rarity tier of shells you can reliably find.

Conch Shells & the Hermit Crab

The Conch is one of the most important shells in Roblox Shells for reasons beyond its sell value. Your Hermit Crab companion requires a Conch to equip, and the quality of the Conch you equip directly boosts your Hermit Crab's online bonuses (luck, speed, space, and weight stats). Always equip the best Conch you have found, and upgrade to a better one whenever you find one.

The Hermit Crab also collects shells passively while you are offline. The better its stats and the better its equipped Conch, the more shells it collects. Regularly visit your inventory to claim the shells your Hermit Crab has collected — these passive earnings compound quickly and can fund several tool upgrades without any active farming.
